The average yearly precipitation is 30 - 60 inches (75 - 150 cm). This precipitation falls throughout the year, but in the winter it falls as snow. The average temperature in temperate deciduous forests is 50°F (10°C).
The soil is usually very rocky and moist. This biome has four changing seasons including winter, spring, summer, and fall. Spring tends to last a little longer. The biodiversity is medium.
Temperate forests have a variety of plant species. Moss (top), ferns (middle), wildflowers (bottom) and other small plants can be found on the forest floor. Wildflowers (bottom) have adapted to their environment by the seasons. The appear in the spring and die in the fall. Wild animals such as deer graze on the wild flowers.
Deer, squirrels and wild boars are the most commonly seen mammals in the forests. Deer have adapted to the environment by being able to walk quietly, run fast, and see at night. Deers eat plants (herbivore) and are friendly to other animals.
